Scotland only became an associate member of the ICC as recently as 1994 after severing ties with the England cricket team two years earlier. Currently they can only play at ODIs & in first-class matches. Since then the team has qualified for the World Cups only twice in 1999 & 2007. They have been champions of the ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2004 & have also won the ICC Trophy in 2005. Championship of the ICC Trophy in 2005 enabled them to qualify for the World Cup in 2007. Other than that the team's performance over the years has not been that impressive.
The team is currently captained by Gordon Drummond & coached by Andrew Molloy. Noted players currently playing for the team includes Ryan Watson, Neil McCullum, Colin Smith, John Blain, & Craig Wright. Highest one-day scorer of the team is Gavin Hammilton with 898 runs with an average of 32.07. He was also the captain of the team till 2010 when he retired from international cricket.
